Islamic activities was started at Oulu in 1992. In the same year Finland’s Islamic Society of Oulu was established. Islamic grave yard of Oulu was formed to be a part of Oulu grave yard in Intiö and also the first Mosque of Oulu was opened in Linnankatu. Next year, 1993 Finland’s Islamic Society of Oulu organized first Islamic Conference in Oulu. In year 1995 mosque moved to hallituskatu and three years later the registration of Islamic Society of Oulu was performed. When the organization registered its current name, Islamic Society of Northern Finland in year 2000, it also changed its location to Kajaaninkatu where the mosque was from there on.

In year 2008 the Islamic Society of Northern Finland had 210 registered members. The Society organized many event such as Children Festival, Teaching of Islam for children, lectures for Women, Eid-prayers, Eid-festivals and weekly Friday prayers. In February 2009 the mosque moved to Linnankatu 23-25. Future activities can be read on “Activities” and “Current Events” sections.
